iPhone version of my Blog

Saturday, September 27, 2008

I've been fiddling around with iPhone development (both web apps and native apps) recently and have been building some "toy" applications. For giggles, I decided to create an iPhone version of my weblog using Apple's Dashcode utility:

It took all of about 15 minutes to create a web app that read in my RSS feed and displayed my blog in a format more convenient for viewing on the iPhone (or iPod Touch). Here's a comparison of my normal blog page on the iPhone and the same contents in the iPhone-friendly format:

I've added a link to the iPhone version on the sidebar of my blog. Personally, I find the "normal" blog page no problem to read if I first double-tap in the content frame (which eliminates the sidebar and makes the content text larger). However, I usually have either a 3G or wifi connection, so my HTML page loads are pretty fast. If you use an iPhone to read my blog and you have to use an Edge connection (rather than the faster 3G or wifi network connections), you may find my iPhone blog format more convenient: http://bc.tech.coop/blog/iphone/index.html
