Matt Jadud in Vancouver

Tuesday, May 22, 2007

Matt Jadud arrived yesterday for a short visit to Vancouver. I know him only through his blog and emails that we've exchanged, so it was nice to finally meet him in person. I gave Matt a quick tour around the city (weather wasn't cooperating, so the panoramic views that I had hoped to show him ended up being just views of the inside of clouds!). We then had a nice chat over a Malaysian restaurant dinner about a variety of topics (including Greenfoot, the transterpreter, occam-pi, concurrency, Erlang, academic life, and "other stuff").

Since we hadn't been able to get together when I was in the UK, it was nice to finally meet up. Unfortunately, his schedule didn't have any more spare time; otherwise, I would have scheduled a quick lispvan get-together (speaking of which, it's been a while since we've had our last lispvan meeting [I've been travelling a lot in the past few months], so I'll have to get something organized soon).

Note for all Lispers who might be coming to Vancouver at some stage in the future: There are 3 main things that people come to Vancouver for:

  1. The outdoor attractions.
  2. The standard tourist attractions.
  3. lispvan ;-)
Make certain that you don't miss out on #3 by giving me plenty of advance notice about when you'll be coming to Vancouver! ;-)
