SBCL, 666, and the Number of the Beast

Tuesday, June 6, 2006

Today is June 6, 2006 or 6/6/6 (in all of d/m/y, m/d/y, and y/m/d formats!). The number 666 has been reviled throughout history as being the Number of the Beast so I thought it only appropriate that today's posting be about SBCL. After all, what other Lisp implementation has been harming the industry for so long (in fact, there are even those who glorify this!). With the latest developments, it is really evil incarnate (hmm, ok, maybe not in the strict Merriam-Webster Dictionary sense, but you understand what I'm getting at). It doesn't have an official song, but, if it did, it would probably be Maxx Klaxon's remix of The Internationale, a traditional anthem for revolutionaries and those who wish to change the status quo. I mean, like, it's even got an evil, goth logo:

Save-Lisp-And-Die

And, is it any coincidence that the SBCL release that was available as of May 18 (6+6+6) (May 18 is significant because there are 18 [6+6+6 also - spooky, eh?] full days between May 18 and 6/6/6), was 0.9.12! And, if you subtract 3 from 9 and split 12 into two 6's, you also get 666. A coincidence? I think not! I'm sure Hexakosioihexekontahexaphobiacs everywhere have seen all of these connections between 666 and SBCL! ;-)

Fnord.

Update-2006-06-06: It was also pointed out to me that SBCL was created in 1999 - which is 666 (without the '1') upside down!

In addition, this web site offers further proof of the evil that is SBCL: "The Proof that SBCL is Evil".
