Lisp Map on Frappr!
Tuesday, January 17, 2006
A while ago, someone set up the
xearth page on CLiki. People entered their names and
lattitude/longitude locations and you could get an
xearth map that
displayed where lispers were located in the world. There also used to be
some static jpeg's (that were updated on an hourly basis) on the Cliki
page that
provided a graphical representation of lisper
locations if you didn't have xearth installed. Unfortunately, the static images disappeared and people
gradually stopped adding their names and location details to this
page.
Just recently, I noticed the
lisp page on
Frappr!, a beta site that utilizes Google Maps to create "group
maps". I'm of two minds as to whether it's worthwhile to depend on
such a site long-term; however, I did find it interesting to find out
that
Brian Rice is just down the road in Seattle and that
Gary King is on the other side of the continent in Massachusetts. As with most such systems, it is
only as good as the information that is put into it. I think that it would be nice
to have some sort of geographical reference so that you could see
where other lispers are located, so I've entered some basic information
(just name, picture, blog URL and city) about myself. Hopefully, some others
will add themselves as well so we know who our lispy neighbors are.
