DOS Attack Disguised as Weblog Entry!
Saturday, August 27, 2005
Hehe, a few people reported problems with my
previous weblog entry. Since I hadn't scaled the actual images
from the lisp user group meeting
(instead, I
had used html image attributes to re-scale the images so that people
could click on them and bring up a full-size image and I wouldn't need
to upload two different images), some people
were experiencing memory and CPU shortages when trying to view the
page.
Zach Beane was kind enough to bring this to my attention. I have now scaled the images and saved them at a lower
resolution so there shouldn't be any more problems. I don't do much
imaging/multimedia stuff and my own machines have lots of bandwidth, memory and CPU, so I
don't always do The Right Thing. My apologies to those of you who had
problems viewing the page.
If anyone could offer any suggestions as to how I might be able to
reduce the size of movie files (I'm using
SnapZ Pro on Mac OS X to capture the lisp user group presentations),
that would be a big help. It would also increase the likelihood that I will
make future lisp user group movies as they do take up a lot of disk space
in the current format. I've figured out why we had the sound problems,
but I still don't know how to reduce the size of the movies.
