Too many books!
Wednesday, May 11, 2005
I've got way too many books. Geez, I have over 2 shelves of Lisp books, let alone all the other stuff. I just donated about 100 computer books to UCHSC but I still have tons of computer/technology-related books. Then, I've also got gazillions of other books on an eclectic range of non-technology topics. The biggest (remaining) groupings are:
- About 50 books on Lisp and AI
- About 50 books on a variety of different computer/technology related topics
- Several dozen books on whales and dolphins from the time I was doing cetacean sound research with Wade Doak
- A couple dozen books on birds, sharks, and natural history
- A couple dozen art books
- A couple dozen travel books
- A couple dozen books on stock trading (from the time that I thought my clever algorithms would make me a fortune day trading - hehe, didn't we all!)
- About a dozen foreign language books and language text books
- A half dozen disintegrating Whole Earth Catalogs (should really throw them out, but they were my "Google" once!)
I took several large boxes of books to two local second-hand book stores and donated several boxes of books to different charities but I still have too many books. The fact that I have too many books is, of course, even more apparent to me at the moment as I'm packing up for the move to Vancouver and I've just filled 15 boxes full of books in preparation for the move! Oh, my aching back ... :-(
