Another Lisper switches to Mac OS X

Tuesday, March 29, 2005

I commented the other day that I had switched over to being a 100% Mac OS X user now. I also commented on how it looks like there are more and more people who are moving over to Mac OS X as their Lisp platform of choice. Well, Paul Graham seems to have come to the same conclusion in his latest essay "Return of the Mac". In the essay, he comments:

"All the best hackers I know are gradually switching to Macs. My friend Robert said his whole research group at MIT recently bought themselves Powerbooks. These guys are not the graphic designers and grandmas who were buying Macs at Apple's low point in the mid 1990s. They're about as hardcore OS hackers as you can get."
In the essay, Paul comments on how he has recently switched over to using an Apple PowerBook too (after having used an IBM Thinkpad previously). When I met Patrick Collison (the young Irish fellow who created his own version of Lisp) in the UK earlier this month, he was carting around a PowerBook as well.
