Back from Sailing vacation
Tuesday, August 10, 2004
Just got back from a 2-week vacation in the Caribbean. I helped a
friend move his 44 foot yacht from
St Martin to
St Lucia in order to get it further south (away from the areas
more commonly hit by hurricanes in the Caribbean) for the hurricane
season. It was an interesting trip - we had engine problems and were
be-calmed for 24 hours before we could repair the diesel engine and
move on. We sailed most of the trip and just managed to get into St
Lucia before
tropical storm "Bonnie" hit the islands. The last couple
of legs were a bit rough with winds gusting to 30 knots and biggish
swells. For safety, we were lashed into the cockpit during our night
shifts at the helm. I've been back home for a few days now and the ground still
moves a bit :-)
Looks like a few interesting things have been happening in the Lisp
world while I've been away. Here are some of the things I've made a
note I want to read up on:
- Paul Graham has written a new article called Great Hackers
- Christophe Rhodes posted summaries of the Libre Software Meeting 2004 lightning talks
- Franz has announced DOM support for Allegro CL
- A SLIME beta release has been announced.
- Lemonodor pointed to a neat site of nerd tattoos
- Kevin Rosenberg announced the release of CLSQL 3.0 with full CommonSQL backward compatibility
- There are some interesting comments on c.l.l. regarding ABCL's change of license
- jfli has been ported to ABCL
- Dave Roberts wonders where John Wiseman gets all the neat images he posts on lemonodor - I've wondered about that too - he posts some really cool pictures (as well as some cool content) :-)
